Introduction

The Board of Management of Loreto College St. Stephen’s Green, recognizes that all staff members have the right to a workplace free from bullying and sexual harassment and is fully committed to ensuring that every staff member will enjoy that right.  Each and every member of the school community has a duty to uphold the right of every individual in the school to work in an environment that is free from bullying or harassment of any kind.

This policy was drawn up in consultation with staff, parent representatives and the Board of Management and with reference to the School’s Mission Statement.

In an atmosphere of mutual respect and justice, we are a community that aims to provide a rich and diverse curriculum catering for the needs of each individual student.  We provide a holistic education wherein we strive for excellence in the pursuit of knowledge.  Social concerns and spiritual values are central to our educational philosophy, while sporting and cultural endeavours are encouraged.  Each student is challenged to realise her full potential and to recognise the dignity of each human being.

The Loreto school is perceived as a community, with the student at its centre, where every effort is made to give practical expression to truth, freedom, justice, sincerity and joy.  Relationships, structures and systems within the school are constantly evaluated against these core values.

Scope

The Dignity in the Workplace Policy applies to all persons employed at Loreto College St. Stephen’s Green. Trustees, management, teaching and support staff, students and parents value and affirm each other and aim to work together in a collaborative fashion.  This network of relationships must be underpinned by a deep respect for persons and is characterized by courtesy, tolerance, loyalty and respect for the integrity of all as the school community works towards a common vision.

Dignity in the Workplace Charter

Every person in this workplace has the right to be treated with respect and courtesy and to have his or her individuality valued.  While we recognize that there may be personal differences between people who work at Loreto College St. Stephen’s Green, these differences will not impinge upon good working relations in the school.

All staff are valued for their professional experience, knowledge and expertise and for their contribution within the school community, whether inside or outside the classroom.  Teaching staff recognize each other as professional equals and acknowledge the equal importance of every subject on the curriculum.

Courtesy, helpfulness, co-operation, integrity, trust, generosity, kindness, friendliness and justice are among the qualities that are valued in the workplace.

All individuals who work at the College or who come into contact with its staff or students have a duty to uphold this charter and to promote its provisions.
