This year over 300 students entered the prestigious Leinster Schools Debating Championship. Last night the final 12 took part in an excellent debate on whether the state should recognise any marriage. As they have done throughout the competition, Sarah Duffy and Niamh Ryan argued excellently as they made a very convincing case for the state to refuse to recognise any marriages. They were awarded a well-deserved victory after a year of exceptional performances.
We would like to thank all the supporters who came to Trinity to cheer them on including an appearance by Leo the Loreto mascot! With four Loreto College teams having made the semi-finals and Sarah and Niamh winning the title, it is fair to say that this has been a fantastic year for debating in the Green. Well done to all involved.
