On Wednesday 23rd March, the 5th years all set off to the West Coast. This annual trip that usually takes place in 4th year has been long awaited because of Covid, but it was definitely worth it!
We all had an early start and met in the school for 8am with suitcases that were arguably much too big for a two night stay!!!
When we arrived in Achill, none of us knew what an action packed two days we had ahead of us. We were put into different groups and within an hour of arriving, we were all busy in our activities. There was a walk, which was more uphill than most liked but had incredible views of Achill as we walked the whole way around the mountain. Kayaking had us all working hard, racing each other and doing our best to push each other into the water. During the Stand Up Paddle Boarding or SUPing, it was much harder to stay dry. We all tried to keep our balance, especially when we were all on the one board at the same time! Surfing seemed to be the favourite activity but it was definitely helped by the big waves on Keel Beach. With excellent instructors we even had a few girls standing up on the boards. Of course all of these activities were helped by the good weather we had. The sun shining down as we jumped into the Atlantic in March was definitely a big advantage!
During the evening we all came together to do even more activities. We went on a long walk, did rock climbing and archery. On the last night we had a Talent Show. We all appreciated the break from school and work to spend time together doing, as you can see, a whole range of activities. When we were all getting back onto the bus on Friday morning no one was happy. We all wanted an extra night!!!
We had a brilliant time and enjoyed ourselves so much. The instructors in Achill kept our days busy and fun. We are very grateful for everyone who made it happen for us. Ms. Crinion organised this trip for the whole year and worked on it for months to make sure we got our 4th year trip. We also appreciate her and Ms. O’Brien accompanying us and taking time out of their busy schedules to come with us. This was an unforgettable trip!
