Music is central to who we are at Loreto College St Stephen’s Green. The sound of young voices fills our corridors at almost every moment of the school day. Choir forms part of the timetabled curriculum for every class in the school. We also have Ceiliúr (a voluntary choir) with students drawn from each year group. Students do not audition for this choir; all that is needed is a love of singing, a commitment to a rigorous rehearsal schedule in the early mornings and at lunchtime and a pride in excellence.
The school Orchestra is made up of about thirty students with a range of instruments across all families. It rehearses twice on a Wednesday and is open to all students. Students may also audition for the school’s Chamber Orchestra. Choirs and both Orchestras join forces for the annual Christmas Concert, the Maytime Music Concert as well as separate performances and competitions throughout the year.
Other outlets for musical creativity are provided in scheduled music classes, monthly lunch time recitals, music technology and Folk Goup. Music underpins all religious activities at the College and its richness enhances the lives of staff, students and parents/guardians.
