Traditionally Book Clubs have been held in the Library, once a month, at lunchtimes. Given the volume of activities available to the girls, it was proving difficult to find a lunchtime that suited everybody who was interested. In 2017/2018 we decided to try something new and introduced a Breakfast Book Club for First Years. It is now held from 8.15 to 8.35, once a month, on a Tuesday morning and has been a huge success. Numbers of participants ranged from 20 to 25 throughout the school year and the groups were made up of a mix of avid readers and those who were only starting to read for pleasure. Girls happily spoke about the books they had read and made recommendations of books they had enjoyed.
We continued this format during 2018/2019 and 2019/20 and it has been equally popular. We now hold a 2nd Breakfast Book Club, once a month, on a Wednesday morning. It is made up of a mix of avid readers from all the other years.
Book Club for 2020/2021 has changed format. Because of covid restrictions half of the Library is being used as a classroom for this school year. While the Library isn’t functioning in its traditional way girls are still able to borrow books by accessing the library catalogue from their ipads, emailing the Librarian and the book of their choice is dropped to their classroom. First Year Book Club has been moved to Tuesday and Thursday lunchtimes and there has been a huge uptake with over 40 girls participating!
